About the Course
What is the most interesting bug you have ever seen? There are millions of interesting bugs in the world. Can you imagine a fly that can blow its eyes out with an air bubble, or a fly’s larva that looks like a centipede, how about a fly larva that lives under the skin of other living animals?
In class the students will explore four fascinating flies. We will learn interesting facts about each fly. The students will discover and watch how the stalk-eyed fly goes from a normal looking fly to an incredible long stalk-eyed fly during part of its life cycle. They will compare the interesting larva of the large dobson fly to another creature they may have seen before. We will discuss why a fly with big brightly colored eyes might be called a doctor fly. Finally the students will learn about a creepy fly who uses a mosquito to transport its eggs. We will also make our own interesting flies.
