About the Course
Why do we have to sleep? What happens if we skip it? Do you think we’ll be ok? Well… maybe at first but eventually our body will start shutting down. We NEED sleep. Most kids between 5 and 12 years old need about 10 hours of sleep. But why? Let’s have a look.
While we sleep, our brains use less energy and can therefore store more energy for later use. Sleep is a restorative period for our brains and body to repair itself. Without one day of sleep, you’d be very cranky and a bit clumsy and after five days without sleep, you’d start to see things and hallucinate. Eventually you’d fall asleep, whether you wanted to or not!
This class will focus on the stages of sleep and the characteristics of each. The class will teach about aspect of sleeping including Neural and behavioral characteristics of the stages of the sleep cycle, theories of sleeping and some fun facts of sleeping! We’ll also discuss the importance of sleep and what would happen if we didn’t sleep as much as we needed to!
