About the Course

Did you know that so many plastic bags are used every year that if we tied them together they would circle the whole world 773 times? Over one million plastic water bottles are used every minute. Our planet, animals, and people are all suffering from plastic pollution. In these fun, interactive multi-day project-based learning classes the students will work together to find solutions on how to limit single-use plastics in our daily life.

The students will participate by being leaders in conversations and create questions to help develop and solve the plastic problem. Throughout the class, the students will learn through discussion, lectures, activities, stories, role-playing, games, and projects. Project-based learning allows students to engage and actively explore solutions to this real-world problem.

The student will learn all about plastic. We will explore everything from how plastic is made to what plastic can be recycled. They will listen to The Super Summer Scavenger Hunt. This fun story is about Catie and her friends have a lot of exciting summer plans. During their first summer day, they find that their favorite summer hangout spots are different from what they remember. The students will learn through the characters' experiences. We will discuss problems the characters had and how the students can connect with the characters. Then students will participate in an at-home scavenger hunt, collect data, play the Recycle Round-Up game, and will be assigned roles that they will use to make their fun final projects.

They will be encouraged to work together and share their ideas. The students will create a fun final project where they will get to become one of the characters and develop their own ending to the story. They will continue to work in small groups. They will each have time to shine and they will have the opportunity to present to the class. These classes will inspire students to be more environmentally conscious and help spread their knowledge to others.
